Oromo community in Tingvoll and Møre og Romsdal came as Refugee in different years and by different way through to get Protection under the Home Office in Norway. We are originally from Ethiopia and our Tribe name is OROMO, but having fled our country because of political situation, we lived in a refugee camp in Kenya and another country before we came to Norway.
Oromo people in the city continue to live under difficult circumstances- insecurity of housing, low incomes, finding difficult accessing services and work because of the language and cultural barriers. Additionally, we found out that our children are commencing to forget their own language. This cause will result the communication very difficult between families and the new generations.
Around 50 members of Oromo community lives in Tingvoll and Møre og Romsdal. Practically, it is very clear that our community needs continued support from each other to settle into life of Tingvoll and Møre og Romsdal Norway. Thus, we thought establishing the Oromo community in Tingvoll and Møre og Romsdal Norway would benefit this vulnerable people and we established the Oromo community in Tingvoll and Møre og Romsdal on the 1/01/2013.
The motto of Oromo community in Tingvoll and Møre og Romsdal is always to welcome all races as a member and work with diverse communities in Tingvoll and Møre og Romsdal because this will give us great opportunity to share the culture and strength our connection with others community.
